THE MULTIFACETED AND INCOMPREHENSIBLE WORLD OF MAXIMILLIEN DE LAFAYETTE  By Peggy North

Between 1980 and 1984, de Lafayette wrote 6 plays, 3 musicals, 42 musical scores, 2 dictionaries (a lexicon of 10 languages) and  authored 20 books which were published in Europe and the Middle East. And for 3 long years, he did not write a single word. Then, between 1987 and 1991,he rejuvenated his literary appetite and produced 65 books and encyclopedias. And again from 1992 to 1998, he anchored his prolific authorship on a dry dock; he ceased to write books. Instead, he began to write columns and art critiques. He abandoned his easel for 15 years. No more paintings and no more shows. He devoted his time to political commentaries, historical essays and art/entertainment  critiques of artists, performers and divas. Around 1999, he embarked on a new journey; writing books on hospitality and corporate leadership. And as expected -of course- he stopped to write for 4 years. He opened restaurants, nightclubs and floorshows venues. Around 2002, his lavish entertainment productions and live shows venues  came to an end. He left the United States for good and settled in France and England with frequent business trips to Italy. In London, he became the Editor-in-Chief of the London's Monthly Herald  http://www.monthlyherald.com and short after, the Editor-in-Chief of the International Herald Daily news http://www.internationalheralddailynews.org  His columns and articles were read in 125 countries. Then, he resigned to reassume the position of the CEO of the American Institute (AHI)  http://www.americanhospitalityinstitute.org  , a position he held, a decade ago. He got bored and left the institute. He disappeared from the face of the earth for 3 years. Nobody knew what happened to him, what he is doing and where is he? A total mystery. On a regular basis , I surf the Internet. And every time I do so, I Google my dear friend Maximillien. Each new Googling is more astonishing than the previous one. In addition to 5,000 references made to him and to to his work, and hundreds of sites pertaining to his endeavors and creativity, sometimes, unexpected and refreshing sites about Maxime burst on my monitors.

The most intriguing sites are those of  AHI, Barnes & Noble, Amazon, Yahoo, German Culture and Books  and at least 100 additional booksellers sites. These very large  websites keep on listing and advertising his 97 books, yet none of them is available. They are sold out. Why do they do this? I do not know. Second, art organizations, corporations and associations keep on posting  glowing press releases about him and yet, he is no longer actively participating in their activities. Third, No one knows how to reach him, yet, his syndicated articles and columns are daily published in Europe and the United States. I need some help here! The last time, I saw my dear Friend, Maxime was in London around February 2004. I missed talking to him. He was fun, fun, fun...and larger than life. I worked with Maxim at the Herald. Ten splendid years in London. And I began to miss those lovely years of pure delightful madness and overwhelming creativity.

Elaine Blanchard asked me to write a few words about Maximillien. That is tough. Really, I do not know where to start and what to say. The man is an ocean of wisdom, brilliant intelligence, adventures, irregularities, unorthodoxy, warmth, madness, generosity and MASS CONFUSION. I made it easy on my self. I took the liberty of selecting 2 pages from two sites posted on the Internet, some 3 or 4 years ago. They are very special, for one site lists statements about Maxime's diverse accomplishments by dignitaries and close associates. And the other site was a reconstruction of Barnes & Noble listing of his books which are no longer available. This would give you an idea about Maximillien de Lafayette. Here they are:
